Alloy Knowledge
Overview
ASTM B443 specifies the technical requirements for Inconel 625 sheet, plate, coil and strip. Suppliers should strictly follow this standard when producing these materials. In this article, we will detail the noteworthy points and details in ASTM B443. This will help you make better decisions when purchasing and inspecting.

ASTM B443 mainly includes four products: sheet, plate, coil and strip. The main way to distinguish them is size and production process. Generally speaking, the plate is thicker and is often produced by hot rolling. Sheet and strip are thinner and are often produced by cold rolling. Among them, the width of strip is narrower. Coil is a coiled sheet and plate. Its production process is determined by the thickness. The table below defines exactly how the different products differ.

Delivery State
Inconel 625 is specified in two states in the standard: Grade I (Annealed) and Grade II (Solution Annealed). If not specified, the supplier shall deliver in Grade I state. Alloys in the Grade II state have better creep properties at high temperatures. Therefore, if your application requires the alloy to operate at high temperatures, delivery in the Grade II condition should be specified with the supplier in advance.
The standard stipulates that all UNS N alloys are delivered in a solution annealed state.

Straightness
The edgewise curvature (depth of chord) of flat sheet, strip, and plate shall not exceed 0.05 in. (1.27 mm) multiplied by the length in feet (0.04 mm multiplied by the length in centimeters).
Edges
Sheet and strip shall have sheared or slit edges. Plate shall have sheared or cut (machined, abrasive cut, powder cut, or inert arc cut) edges, as specified.
Squareness
For sheets of all thicknesses, the angle between adjacent sides shall be 90 ± 0.15° (1/16 in. in 24 in., 1.6 mm in 610 mm).
Certification
The supplier shall provide the material test certificate corresponding to the material before delivery. The certificate should include supplier and customer information, product size and delivery state, chemical composition and mechanical properties, size, standard and heat number.
Conclusion
ASTM B443 is mainly applicable to Inconel 625 sheets. The standard stipulates the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and dimensional tolerances of materials. Suppliers shall produce materials in strict accordance with standards.
We can produce Inconel 625 sheet, plate and strip according to the standard of ASTM B443. If you have any needs, you can contact us.
