 At the 14th China International Energy Storage Conference held in Hangzhou on March 10, Wang Shenze, secretary general of China Chemical and Physical Power Industry Association, made the above remarks.

 From the perspective of the industry, from a global perspective, the energy storage industry, especially the new energy storage industry (mainly lithium battery energy storage) industry, is facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges.

 In the energy storage conference, the latest statistics of Energy Storage Application Branch of China Chemical and Physical Power Supply Industry Association show that the cumulative installed power of global energy storage in 2023 is about 294.1GW, among which the cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage is about 88.2GW, accounting for 30.0%; the cumulative installed capacity of pumped storage is about 201.3GW, accounting for 68.4%; and the cumulative installed capacity of cold heat storage is about 4.6GW, accounting for 1.6%.

 In 2023, among the new energy storage installations in the world, the proportion of various technical paths is: lithium ion batteries for 92.7%, compressed air energy storage for 1.4%, flywheel energy storage for 0.4%, flow batteries for 1.7%, sodium ion batteries for 1.7%, and lead batteries for 2.0%.

 In 2023, the cumulative installed power of energy storage in China will be about 83.7GW. Among them, the cumulative installed power of new energy storage is about 32.2GW, with a year-on-year growth of 196.5%, accounting for 38.4% of the total installed capacity; the cumulative installed power of pumped storage is about 50.6GW, with a year-on-year growth of 10.6% and 60.6% of the total installed capacity; the cumulative installed power of cold storage is about 930.7MW, with a year-on-year increase of 69.6%, accounting for 1.1% of the total installed energy storage.

 In terms of the number of energy storage projects, by the end of 2023, the total number of energy storage projects in China has reached 1,588, compared with the total number of 932 energy storage projects in 2022, an increase of 70.4%.

 For the past 2023, Wang concluded that the brand power and influence of China's energy storage industry in the global market will increase significantly in 2023, from the installed capacity of energy storage, the export volume of energy storage batteries and system integration.

In Wang's view, the big development of new energy storage in China in 2023 is driven by multiple factors. On the one hand, in 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Energy Administration and the local government departments will issue a number of major policies, covering the power market, industrial micro grid, innovation projects, safety production, technological innovation, standard construction, application guidelines and other aspects.

 Take Sunshine Power, the leading domestic solar storage integrator, as an example, the shipment list of Chinese Energy Storage System Enterprises in the Global Market in 2023 released by the Energy Storage Research Institute shows that Sunshine Power has ranked the first place again.

In addition to the key markets of China and the United States, in 2023, the representative projects of Sunshine Power in other markets include: 138MW / 330 MWh largest independent energy storage project in South Australia, the 825 MWh energy storage supply agreement with British Constantine Company, the bid of 2.2GW PHOTOVOLTAIC + 600 MWh energy storage project in NEOM New City of Saudi Arabia, and the three-year 3 GWh supply agreement with Australian HBD Company, etc.

 Looking forward to the prospects of the global and Chinese energy storage industry and market in 2024, Wang Zhen analyzed that the globalization process of China's new energy storage industry will further turn into a rapid, in-depth and large-scale development stage. Influenced by various factors such as tariffs, trade barriers, carbon border taxes, cost control, market demand, logistics and transportation, and product supply chain and after-sales service, the process of overseas localization of Chinese battery enterprises will be further accelerated.

At the same time, multinational enterprises actively rely on the advantages of international channels, are accelerating localization and technology transformation, and the uncertainty of the international supply chain environment is increasing. Chinese energy storage enterprises need to take precautions, adjust production plans, ensure the stability of supply chain and cost control, so as to improve the overall ability to resist risks.

 It is suggested to strengthen the top-level design of energy storage policy and carry out the research of energy storage cost compensation mechanism

 It is worth mentioning that this year's national two sessions of the government work report, for the first time mentioned the "new energy storage". Premier Li Qiang stressed the necessity of developing new energy storage industry, and proposed to strengthen the construction of large-scale wind power and photovoltaic bases and external transmission channels, promote the development and utilization of distributed energy, and develop new energy storage.

 How can China's energy storage industry develop more steadily and better this year? Wang zehen made the following suggestions.

 First, focusing on the common problems faced by the energy storage industry, such as poor cost distribution, and comprehensively considering the application characteristics of various energy storage technologies, the functional role in the new power system and whether the services provided are public goods attributes, we study and propose a cost distribution mechanism that can reflect the value and economic attributes of energy storage.

 Second, suggested that scientific objective and reasonable analysis of all kinds of energy storage technology cost structure, influencing factors and change trend, measure the cost and benefit of energy storage technology, different technology in the power system under the same application scenarios between economic comparative analysis, to develop related energy storage industry policy, price policy, fiscal subsidies to provide reference.

 Third, it is suggested to organize and develop the grid-connected platform for digital intelligent energy storage projects, optimize the grid-connected process, simplify the grid-connected procedures, and formulate systems and standards such as scheduling management regulations, scheduling principles, scheduling and operation index evaluation system of energy storage projects, so as to lay a solid foundation for further standardizing the grid-connected operation of energy storage projects.

 Fourth, it is suggested to accelerate the construction and operation of the flexibly regulated resource capacity market and the FM market. We will promote effective linkage between medium-and long-term spot trading and regional auxiliary service markets and provincial spot markets, and encourage new energy storage and virtual power plants to participate in the power market.

 Fifth, increase the safety and operation supervision of key links such as new energy storage projects and pumped storage projects connected to the power grid, entering the market, regulation and consumption, explore the construction of a new new energy system power balance mechanism with two-way linkage between supply side and demand side, and timely promote the solution of existing problems.

Six is to strengthen the independent intellectual property rights of the international market layout, encourage enterprises from "product export" mode to "technology export" mode, improve enterprises to cope with complex international form of technical strength, and reasonable use of international trade rules, actively into the global new energy and new storage industry chain, service global carbon neutral process.
