Screen Mesh Selection Guide for your Windows and Doors

sliding window screens the most?

Why Should You Consider Screen Mesh Or Sliding Window Screen?

  • Air Flow- The most significant advantage of choosing a sliding mesh screen is to enjoy the ultimate airflow without obstructions that you will not get on different screens. Operate it by sliding left or right seamlessly. You can choose grey, charcoal or traditional fiberglass as per your requirement.
  • Daytime Privacy- You can keep your window or door open if you wish, but Screen mess will play significantly in terms of your privacy when it is closed.
  • Durability- The screen mesh is durable enough to be broken through giant insects or birds claws. It may last for more than 15-20 years until you don’t hit it hard.
  • Protection from Insects- sliding window screen protects your home from insects, pesticides and lizards when it is closed. That’s the reason it is often called a mosquito screen. You will never be disappointed with its elegance, performance and durability.
  • Installation- The screen has an easy installation process that anyone can install. It does not require any special techniques and eligibility.
  • Energy Savings – If you opt for solar screen mesh, it can block up to 70% of sunlight. It will help maintain the internal temperature according to weather which is its additional benefit.
  • Fade/UV Resistance – If you pay a bit high, you will get fade resistant and ultraviolet rays resistant screens for your windows or doors. The cheaper quality screen starts fading in after a few months only. However, many good quality screens remain resistant to fade and UV even after five years of rough use if you consider buying thick and good quality material.
  • Sun/Brightness Control – If you opt for a pet screen, it blocks about 80% of sunlight; on the other hand, if you opt for solar screen quality, it blocks 70% of the sun.
  • Visibility/View – there are various window screens available in the market, like “ultra-view” and “better view” screens. You will get outstanding visibility with an aluminum screen and standard fiberglass.
  • Price – From cheapest to the most expensive screen: standard fiberglass > standard aluminum > insect/mosquito > solar > pet

The Difference Between Panel and Pleated Filters

June 10, 2018 • Melissa Shea-Brooks

To many, the big difference between polyester panel and pleated filters is cost. The polyester panel filter, more commonly known as the fiberglass filter, is cheaper. Fiberglass filters are the most common and you can find them practically anywhere, depending on the size you require. The pleated filter is generally more popular due to its trusted efficiency.

MERV Rating Scale.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the MERV rating scale, this will be very helpful to you. The scale begins at 1 and ends at 20. One is very weak, if a filter has been given a one, it is probably closer to being a fishing net than a filter. A rating at a 20 is a filter that catches practically everything. The higher the number on the scale, the better the efficiency. To expand a bit on this, filters wit ha MERV rating of 1 are typically found in window A/C units and can trap particles like carpet fibers. A MERV rating of 20 would be found in a clean room and can trap particles that exist within airborne viruses.

Why Pleated?

Pleated filters have a longer life span/expectancy and are very durable. Pleated has a high dust capacity while also maintaining a long life. Pleated is also very effective towards those with asthma and allergies. One of the most efficient pleated filters is the permanently charged electrostatic. It is designed to physically capture unnecessary particles in the air. Particles that would almost always pass through even the other pleated filters are “magnetically” drawn to the filter. On MERV's rating chart, the standard pleated filters can be from a 5 to a 12, sometimes even higher.

Why Polyester Panel Filter?

One of the most obvious answers to that question above is MONEY! We all want to save money. The fiberglass panels are definitely cheaper than the pleated panel. Fiberglass filters are also very good protectors to HVAC equipment from particles that can damage them. If you change out the filters on your furnace quite frequently, a panel filter might work for you.

Why Not Pleated?

Pleated filters can be more expensive and that fact alone is a determining factor to many. Pleated filters are still disposable and do need to be changed. Pleated filters may be made with needlefelt media. While this media provides us with good mechanical efficiency for capturing particles, it is often subject to high resistance to airflow, increasing the operation's energy costs.

Why Not Panel?

On the MERV scale, panel filters can be from a 1-4. These filters are not as durable as others and do require changing more frequently, which in the long run could be costly. They are often referred to as “throw-away” filters. Panel filters have a low filtration efficiency. More than 80 percent of particles (3-10 microns) and virtually all of the smaller micron particles can pass through the filter and not be captured.
