Copper Tungsten

Copper Tungsten Supplier

Copper Tungsten is a mixture of the elements tungsten and copper with different ratios used dependent on the application required. Where hardness, density and wear resistance is the primary requirement, the tungsten percentage is increased. Where electrical and thermal conductivity are important, the copper metal percentage is increased. Tungsten, also known as Wolfram, is a chemical element with the symbol W, atomic number 74 located on the periodic table. Copper is a chemical element with the atomic number 29 on the periodic table.

YOUBO Product Page

Both tungsten and copper individually have great strength. As copper is a very good conductor of electricity and tungsten is a very strong metal, the combination provides excellent strength together with high conductivity. Copper Tungsten offers excellent machinability, high strength, low thermal expansion, high arc resistance and good thermal and electrical conductivity.

Copper Tungsten Applications

Copper Tungsten has a high heat resistance and is used for resistance welding, arcing contacts, furnaces, heating elements, circuit breakers for high voltage applications, switching chambers, electrode discharge machining and balance weights. Copper Tungsten alloy is used in the military industry as air rudders for missiles due to its high temperature resistance to airflow and the ability to withstand extreme high-temperature conditions. This high temperature resistance is what makes tungsten-copper useful within the aeronautical industry. Copper Tungsten is also used in microelectronic materials due to its good thermal conductivity, for example, in high-power device packing materials and heat dissipation components.

Copper Tungsten Formats Supplied

Vulcan Metal Group supplies Copper Tungsten in sheet, plate, round bar & finished parts. Custom machined and finished parts supplied to print.
